Recent GHS Graduate Earns a Perfect Score on the AP Research Exam Meredith Crane

According to a recent letter from College Board, the governing body for Advanced Placement classes and exams, Meredith Crane earned a perfect score of 5 on her AP Research Exam. This accomplishment places Meredith in the top 3% of AP Research Exam takers. In fact, only 176 students out of 5,787 achieved this feat.

Student Spotlight: Jansen Dakin, Academy of Engineering Jansen Dakin

Jansen Dakin, a junior at Glasgow High School, is currently job shadowing at American Engineers, Inc., a civil engineering firm located in Glasgow. Jansen spends part of his school day collecting data, completing spreadsheets, and reviewing site plans for American Engineers. Their services include transportation, geotechnical, bridge and structural, site design, geospatial, and environmental.

Glasgow High School Academic Team Wins at Region GHS Academic Team wins at Region

Glasgow High School Academic Team captured their 7th straight Regional Championship on Saturday, February 17th.   The Quick Recall team placed 1st and Future Problem Solving placed 4th.  The following students placed in Written Assessments and along with the Quick Recall team will advance to the State tournament in March:  Garrison Page - 1st place Language Arts; Rajeev Nair - 1st place Social Studies; Mason Reid - 2nd place Science and 2nd place Arts and Humanities; Parker Bannister - 2nd place Social Studies and 3rd place Arts and Humanities; Daniel Dill - 2nd place Language Arts and 4th place Arts and Humanities.  Congratulations to Coach Garrison, all the coaches and team members!

Glasgow High School students win at Kentucky Sr. Beta Convention GHS Beta Students win 1st Place in Quiz Bowl

Glasgow High School Beta students recently competed at the Kentucky Sr. Beta Convention.   Parker Bannister, Garrison Page, Mason Reid and Rajeev Nair placed 1st in the Quiz Bowl competition.   The GHS Scottie Singers ( Daniel Decker, Jenna Gardner, Christian Hornback, Kylie Jackson, Langford Lessenberry, Presley Parker, Faith Appleby, Palmer Lessenberry, Makena McMurtrey, Kaylee Moore, Emma Pack, Noah Smith, Olivia Stanley, Morgan Vaughn, Matthew Polson, Lily Boortz, and Drew Richardson) placed 2nd in the Show Choir competition.   Addie Johnson placed 1st in Drawing.   Jasmine Smith placed 1st in Recyclable Art.   Rajeev Nair placed 1st in Social Studies.  All these students are eligible to compete at the National Sr. Beta convention in Savannah, Georgia in June.   The GHS Beta club also received the GOLD Key Growth Award.

Students from Highland Elementary, South Green Elementary, Glasgow Middle School and Glasgow High School were recognized at the February regular meeting of the Glagow Board of Education.   The students were recognized for being selected and participating in the KMEA and ACDA All-State Choir.

GHS Art Fragile by Hayley Stahl

Drop by during first block in the art room and you will see students brainstorming ideas for a new project, giving feedback to each other, engaged in a class critique, experimenting with a new medium or concept, and possibly stressing over an approaching deadline.  With the largest AP Studio Art class in GHS history, twenty-six junior and seniors create hand-generated projects based on the principles of design as well as computer-generated graphic projects in hopes to receive  a three or higher on their art portfolios when scored by the College Board at the end of the year.

AP Exam Registration AP logo

AP students need to register for their AP Exams using the Total Registration website. The deadline to register is March 7; however, there will be a $25 late fee after February 28. If you have any questions about exam registration, please contact Tara Martin at tara.martin@glasgow.kyschools.us.

Marketing Program at GHS Marketing

The Marketing Program at GHS gives students an exposure to careers in the business and marketing fields. Students start the program during their freshmen year by enrolling in Principles of Marketing.  Following their freshmen year, they can branch into either of the two areas through a Career Pathway in Accounting or Marketing.  Completing of a Career Pathway will help students transition into collegiate level courses and have a better focus on their specific business major.

Improving Their Future…One Code at a Time GHS Crest

Beginning this school year, Glasgow High School began offering the new AP Computer Science Principles course. Currently there are 22 students enrolled in the class. However, that number is expected to increase in the coming years. One factor leading to this expected increase is a freshmen advisory enrichment course known as Accelerated Computer Science Fundamentals (ACSF). Code.org created the lessons utilized in the ACSF course. As mentioned on their website, Code.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding access to computer science.
