Description:

AP U.S. history is a college level course, covering the history of the United States from the age of discovery to the present time.  Students will be preparing to take the AP exam in May.  The course is divided into two semesters: discovery through the Gilded Age and the late 19th century to the present.  The areas of concentration include historical, political, economic, social, and cultural history.  The AP curriculum stresses higher order thinking skills within a rigorous academic context.  Thus, the student will be frequently required to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate primary and secondary historical sources in addition to memorizing, comprehending, and applying facts, as well as writing essays.  This is a challenging course that can earn students college credit.
