Recent GHS Graduate Earns a Perfect Score on the AP Research Exam
Meredith Crane

Meredith’s research topic for the class focused on college professors’ opinions of trigger warnings in the classroom. (A trigger warning is an alert provided at the beginning of a text, video, lecture, class, etc., that gives individuals advance warning of material that could be potentially distressing.) Trigger warnings are usually provided because the content can remind individuals of a past traumatic experience. However, in recent years, the concept of trigger warnings have been heavily debated, especially on college campuses. Therefore, Meredith wanted to get the perspective of college professors on the topic. Her study was conducted to provide empirical evidence for the trigger warning discussion. Meredith is considering a psychology minor in her studies and some of the information she obtained through her research would be beneficial to her in that field of study.

Meredith recently commented on her score and experiences in her AP Research Class. According to Meredith, she “learned how an academic paper is constructed…everything from the literature review to the references.” Additionally, she learned how to become a better writer and critical thinker. This knowledge has followed her to college, where she currently attends Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. Through her work with AP Research, Meredith developed skills “that are crucial for college-level research and coursework.” Some of those skills involved evaluating sources for relativity and credibility. Furthermore, because of her experiences in the AP Capstone program offered at Glasgow High School, Meredith feels more confident in her writing abilities. While the class was one of the most challenging classes she has taken at GHS, she highly encourages students to take the AP Capstone courses because the knowledge gained is, in Meredith’s words “invaluable.”
