Nurturing Norton's Drive Extended!

SGE students are teaming up with students at Temple Hill Elementary to collect supplies for families in need at Norton's Hospital. The drive has been extended through Tuesday, February 6.  Please click here for more information about items being collected.

Lost and Found Items to Be Donated

Is your child missing a coat or jacket?  SGE's Lost and Found is overflowing.  Stop by the office to get a visitor's tag and take a look in our Lost and Found if your child is missing an article of clothing.  Unclaimed items will be donated to charity on the afternoon of December 19.

SGE 30th Anniversary Celebration

On November 23, 1987, South Green Elementary opened its doors to students.  We’re celebrating our 30th Anniversary the week of November 13-17, 2017, with special dress-up days.  We invite you to participate.

 

Monday, November 13--Wear SGE’s original colors: green and yellow.

Tuesday, November 14--Hats off to 30 Years: Wear a hat.

Wednesday, November 15--30 Years of Growing Leaders: Where will you be in 30 years? Dress as the career you might choose when you grow up.

Thursday, November 16--1980’s Day: Dress in the style of the decade SGE opened.

Friday, November 17--Wear SGE’s colors of today: blue and white.

 

We will also host a reception on Tuesday, November 14, from 5:30pm-7:00pm at South Green Elementary.  Refreshments will be served.  Guests will get a chance to share school memories with one another.  A memorabilia display and a slideshow will remind us of SGE through the years.  Former students and SGE employees, along with the whole Glasgow community, are invited to attend the reception. We look forward to seeing you!

Picture Retake Orders Due November 7

Fundraiser Item Pick Up Day is Wednesday, Oct. 11

If you child sold items for the recent fundraiser, please pick up those items from South Green Elementary on Wednesday, Oct. 11, between 2:30pm and 5:00pm.

DAV Shares Flag Etiquette

Members of Chapter 20 of the DAV recently shared flag etiquette with the student body.  They also instructed the newly installed Flag Leaders on how to properly raise and lower the flag and fold it for storage.

High Attendance Day is Sept. 20th!

Wednesday, September 20, 2017, is Kentucky's High Attendance Day.  High Attendance Day is a day set aside to highlight the importance of students being at school as much as possible. Kentucky’s High Attendance Day is sponsored by the Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel (KDPP) organization. The organization funds regional and state cash prizes that go directly to the winning elementary, middle and high schools.  We'd love to win High Attendance Day.  Do you best to be at school on Wednesday, September 20th!

National Beta Winners Recognized

South Green Elementary Beta students were recognized at the September 11, 2017 GIS Board meeting for their outstanding accomplishments at the National Jr. Beta Convention in Orlando, FL. in June.   They received 3rd place in Group Talent and Emory Gardner received 2nd place in Speech.

SGE PTO Night at McDonald's

Tuesday, September 12, 2017, is SGE PTO Night at the Glasgow McDonald's.  A percentage of inside sales from 5pm to 8pm will be donated to the SGE PTO.

Food Drive for Community Relief--Deadline Extended!

Community Relief Fund is once again collecting nonperishable food items for our local food pantry. To help our community and show support of Community Relief, South Green Elementary will be collecting nonperishable food items for the pantry. Those items will be presented to Dr. Mody as part of our Patriots Day Program on September 11. This is definitely a “Think Win-Win” (Habit 4) opportunity. The classroom that collects the most items will receive their choice of a popcorn party, snow cone party, or cotton candy party compliments of South Green FRC. All nonperishable food items are due to South Green by Friday, September 8.

School Picture Orders Due!

School picture orders are due back to school by Monday, September 11, 2017.

Picture Day is August 24!

Graham Photography will be at South Green Elementary for fall pictures on Thursday, August 24, 2017.  Green screen technology will be used to allow for different backgrounds; therefore, we ask that your child not wear green on picture day.

GIS District Open Enrollment

District wide Open Enrollment will be held at each school on Thursday, July 20th from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm.   Please go to the school that your child will be attending to enroll them.   

Superhero Ride Through the Community!

South Green Elementary, it is time to get out your capes!  Mark your calendars for our “Superhero Ride” through the community!  Come to one of the stops below to meet the SGE faculty and staff on our fun-filled “Superhero Ride” Monday, July 31st,  from 5:00pm-7:00pm. We want to start the year off by celebrating the characteristics that make South Green special; therefore, we will be dressed as superheroes to represent that we are all unique and special. Feel free to allow your child to dress up as their own superhero.  We will be handing out some superhero supplies, too. Look for the fire truck to know we are on the way! Cram the Cruiser

It's time to Cram the Cruiser!  The Glasgow Police Department, Barren County Sheriff's Department, and NASH ICON 103.7 are hosting their annual school drive event to benefit the students of Glasgow and Barren County on Friday, July 28, from 10am-6pm.  Please consider donating school supplies at the following locations: Wal-Mart, Dollar General (Shane Drive location), or Family Dollar (Southgate Plaza).  Please click here for more information.

Emory Gardner wins 2nd place at National Jr. Beta Convention

South Green Elementary student, Emory Gardner recently competed at the National Jr. Beta Convention in Orlando, FL.  Emory won 2nd place in the Division 1 Speech Competion.  Congratulations Emory!

South Green Elementary wins 3rd place at Nationals

South Green Elementary recently competed at the National Jr. Beta Convention in Orlando, FL.  They received 3rd place in the Division 1 Group Talent competion.  Congratulations to all the students and sponsors for working so hard for this honor!

SGE Beta Students Recognized

SGE Beta Students were recognized at the GIS Board meeting for the awards received at the Kentucky State Beta Convention.  Their awards earned them places in the Beta National Convention competitions to be held in Orlando in June.

Education Town Hall Meeting with Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt

The Kentucky Department of Education announced in early March that Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt will be hosting a series of regional Town Hall Meetings across the Commonwealth to gather feedback from Kentuckians on a new accountability system that has been under development for the past year.  A Town Hall Meeting with Commissioner Pruitt will be held in the auditorium of Glasgow High School on Thursday, April 20 from 6:30-8:00 pm.  

Those planning to attend a Town Hall Meeting and requiring interpretive services for the deaf or hard of hearing are asked to contact Susan Palmer at the Kentucky Department of Education, susan.palmer@education.ky.gov or phone at (502) 564-3141, ext. 4805, at least a week prior to the meeting to request services. 

Kentuckians who are unable to attend the meetings, still will have the opportunity to submit their feedback.  Details can be found on Kentucky’s ESSA webpage, http://bit.ly/KYAcccountability, starting March 10.  KDE will provide updates on the meetings on its Facebook page and Twitter account @KyDeptofEd. A dedicated hashtag, #KyEdListens, also is being used for the events.

Baby Safety Shower

The Barren County, Caverna, and Glasgow Family Resource and Youth Services Centers are hosting a Baby Safety Shower April 20, 2017, from 5pm-6:30pm at the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ.  For more information, please click here.

Lost and Found Notification

The SGE Lost and Found is overflowing.  All unclaimed items will be donated to charity on March 31, 2017.  If your child has lost an article of clothing or other item, please have them check the lost and found before March 31.

Special Called SBDM Meeting

Special Called SBDM meeting on Friday, March 24th at 3:30 in the school library.  The purpose of the meeting is to set a principal selection timeline and principal selection training date.

Shop at the Scholastic Book Fair!

The SGE Library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair March 13-17, 2017.  The Book Fair is a book store set up in the library so that students may purchase their own books and school supplies.  Proceeds benefit the SGE Library. Students will have to opportunity to shop during their regularly scheduled library class or with a library pass.  The Book Fair will be open from 8:45am-3:00pm each day (closed 11:40am-12:30pm).  

You may also shop the Book Fair online March 8-21, 2017.  Items purchased online are tax exempt and will ship free to the school after the conclusion of the fair. Click here for more information.

Scholastic Book Fair Oct. 23-27

The SGE Library will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair October 23-27, 2017.  The Book Fair will be open each day from 8:30am to 2:15pm (Closed 9:30am-10:30am for inventory, restock, and staff lunch). Forms of payment accepted are cash, check (made payable to SGE), or credit (cardholder must be present).  The Book Fair is a great time for your student to build his or her personal library while raising funds for the school library. If you have any questions, please email laura.johnson@glasgow.kyschools.us.

There are two options available for the community to vote on for the 2018-19 Glasgow Independent school calendar.  The poll will be open until Sunday, December 3rd.

Read Across America Week Feb. 26-Mar. 2

SGE is celebrating the love of reading for the fun of it by participating the the National Education Associations' Read Across America Week!  It's the week of February 26th-March 2nd (Dr. Seuss's Birthday).  We've got lots of fun activities planned, as well as, dress-up days.  Click here for more information.

February 13 is SGE Night at the Glasgow McDonald's.  A portion of inside sales that evening will go to the SGE PTO.

Notices from SGE Library

Overdue Notices will be sent home with report cards.  If your student receives an overdue notice, please encourage them to return their library books or renew them if they are still reading them.  There is not a fee for overdue books; however, a fee is assessed on lost books.  Please contact Mrs. Johnson if you believe your student got an overdue notice in error (laura.johnson@glasgow.kyschools.us).

Papa John's Battle of the Schools to Benefit FRC

Retakes for School Pictures will be taken on Thursday, Oct. 19th.  Students needing their picture retaken should not wear green on this day.

SGE Drama Club Presents The Little Mermaid Jr.

Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. is playing at Glasgow High School Auditorium starting on Thursday, November 2nd, at 6:00p.m. for opening night and Friday, November 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. for the final performance. The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The Kindergarten through 5th Grade cast contains approximately 58 students from South Green Elementary led by Music Teacher, Tambra Cambron, with Co-Directors, Holly Alexander and Lorraine Elleman.

A performance of Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR.  is open to the public. Tickets will go on sale October 11th, and can be purchased at South Green Elementary each morning between the hours of 7:00- 8:30 a.m. or at the door. Admission is $7. For more information, call 270-651-3806.

Congratulations, Sriram!

Congratulations to Sriram Muppala! Sriram was the student to earn the most Accelerated Reader points last semester, so the SGE library will be named after him for the remainder of the year.  Encourage your student to read and take AR tests.

Super Saturdays

Super Saturdays will be offered at WKU from noon to 2:30 on the four Saturday afternoons in February. Classes in a variety of content areas are planned for advanced students in grades 1-8. Strut Your Scottie Calendar Contest

The Glasgow High School FCCLA club is hosting our 1st Annual Strut Your Scottie Pride Contest..  The 2017 Strut Your Scottie Calendar Contest is  for Glasgow Independent School Elementary students K-5.  The top twelve contestants will be featured in a Glasgow Scottie themed 2018 calendar to be sold in the community.

South Green Elementary Students Win at Jr. Beta

South Green Elementary students recently competed at the Kentucky Jr. Beta State Convention.   Group Talent placed 2nd in Division I.  Caroline Bishop placed 1st in Essay.  Audra Austin placed 2nd in Digital Art.  Emory Gardner placed 3rd in Speech.   The Quiz Bowl team received 3rd place and the Tower of Power team received 2nd place.   All of these students will be advancing to the National Jr. Beta competion to be held in Savannah, Georgia in June.

Chorus Students Recognized at February Board meeting

Students from Highland Elementary, South Green Elementary, Glasgow Middle School and Glasgow High School were recognized at the February regular meeting of the Glagow Board of Education.   The students were recognized for being selected and participating in the KMEA and ACDA All-State Choir.

Glasgow Board of Education Local Planning Committee Meeting Notification

The Glasgow Board of Education Local Planning Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at Glasgow Middle School at 105 Scottie Drive, Glasgow Kentucky.  The purpose of the meeting is an orientation meeting in regards to developing a new District Facility Plan.

The Glasgow Board of Education Local Planning Committee will hold a public forum on Thursday, February 20, at 5.30 p.m. at Glasgow Middle School at 105 Scottie Drive, Glasgow Kentucky. The local planning committee will solicit public comments regarding district facilities and the district facility plan.
